ITERATIONS from MAPS to CASTS

THE URBAN SPACE INVESTIGATED AS MAP BOOK
I worked with the map book as a tool for navigating in a city. I used the logic and chronology of its particular format. You look up at the mid page or at page 56 in order to find a specific place, and you zoom closer when you navigate via the coordinate. It’s a large area fitted into a small construction. What interested me was the connection between the map as a tangible thing and the map as a representation. I established a set of keywords based on a parallel view, matching the typography of the map with the topography of the site:

The Typography of the Map:
1. Grid and numbers
2. Pages and continuations
3. Silhouettes and colors

The Topography of the Site:
1. Signs and orientation
2. Context and relations
3. Interiors and exteriors
